What does this course include?

The course consists of a mix of presentations, site visits, workshop and networking opportunities that will provide participants with...

  • an introduction to European research programmes for young scientists and to key elements of grant writing
  • tools to assess the current status of their career, to identify strengths and fields for development
  • a better understanding of the workings of European research policy and funding and incorporate this knowledge in future project applications
  • knowledge about research related job opportunities outside of academia and industry

Who can apply?

This course is designed for junior post docs (1 yr < PhD < 3 yrs). To make the course interactive, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 24 persons, i.e. three slots / university. The registration is binding. Repeat participation is not possible.

Time frame & location

The course runs from June 4th, 09:00 to June 6th, 15:00 and will take place at several locations in the vicinity of the European Parliament. A detailed program will be provided in time to the selected participants

How much will it cost?

There is no tuition fee. Enrolled participants will receive a travel subsidy of EUR 300,- € to support the covering of transport & accommodation costs. Lunches & coffee breaks, and a joint dinner on June 4th are included.
Participants pay for the other meals, travel, accommodation, travel insurance and personal needs (from their own, or university allocated resources).

How to register?

Registration opens on January 8th, 2024. Deadline for application was 15/02/2024. The applicants will be informed by e-mail about next steps in Mid-March, accepted applicants will be asked to confirm their participation by contacting a local coordinator till April 10, 2024.

Selection Criteria

We will select candidates on a first-come-first-served basis after the following selection criteria are met:

  • The candidate must meet all eligibility criteria
  • The candidate must write a good motivation for joining the course
  • There must be a gender balance of candidates selected from each university
  • Candidates must represent a diversity of the academic departments within each university (usually, no more than one candidate will be selected from a single department)
