International Relations Officers (IRO)

Objectives

The International Relations Offices are the central units that provide support for all issues concerning student exchange. The International Relations Officers (IROs) deal with all questions pertaining to a stay in a foreign country, i.e. admission, scholarships, health insurance, etc. Students planning to study at another ELLS university should contact the IRO at their home and at the host university.

Projects

IRO project on joint ELLS MSc programmes

One of the aims of the ELLS network is to establish joint master programmes. To support the subject area groups in achieving this, the ELLS Task Force has asked the international relations officers (IRO group) to investigate into possible models of cooperation and to develop guidelines for a common framework for development of joint ELLS master programmes. As a result, in January 2007, the IRO group published the
"Manual for Planning and Implementing Joint MSc Programmes" (2010 version).

IRO Manual for ELLS Summer Schools

Based on the experience of previous ELLS summer schools the IRO group compiles a “Manual for the implementation of joint ELLS Summer Schools” that aims at facilitating the process of planning, promoting, implementing and evaluating further joint ELLS summer schools. A time schedule for preparation is suggested, various practical aspects as visa application, housing, funding possibilities, etc. are dealt with. A special chapter is will be dedicated to the use of e-learning in summer schools.

The manual is meant as a support for new ELLS subject area groups, but can be useful for persons who have already organized summer courses, too.
