Summer School in Bioeconomy

Introduction

This Summer School is an international cooperation within the scope of the Euroleague for Life  Sciences  (ELLS) and is organised by faculties and departments that join forces from various fields of expertise (e.g. renewable energy, primary production, food science, economy/marketing) under an umbrella of “bioeconomy”. It addresses bioeconomy issues in interdisciplinary views and aims to bring students and teachers from various countries and fields to work together in order to discuss and talk about actual topics and problems of bioeconomy.

The  Summer School on Bioeconomy 2018 will take place at the campus of the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, from 3 - 14 September, 2018.

In a two week program the  Summer School in Bioeconomy will give you an insight into the whole life cycle of bio-based materials: Bioenergy, Biomaterials, Food technology, as well as Socio-economic and ethical aspects of a future Bioeconomy. Furthermore the different national systems of Bioeconomics are part of the course.

In a mix of lectures, laboratory experience and excursions professors of the ELLS partner universities and other international experts teach you more about the topic Bio-based Economy in an interactive way and in an international surrounding.

E-Learning before the attendance phase
Mix of lectures, laboratory experience and excursions during the stay at Hohenheim

Exam:

Presentations and written test at the end of the summer school

Duration:

2 weeks; 3th - 14th September  2018 (expected arrival date: Saturday, 1st September or Sunday, 2nd September 2018)

Please add a short motivation letter (max. 1 page), a transcript of records and an academic CV to your application.

Deadline for application is the 30th April 2018. The applicants will get informed not later
than on the 11th May 2018 if their application is accepted.

Participants

This Summer School targets master and PhD students. Advanced Bachelor students may also participate.
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 25 students.

Location and accommodation

Pre-booked furnished flats with twin or triple rooms. Rooms are booked from 1 September to 15 September 2018, 

Costs

Students from ELLS universities: 400 EURO for housing and for a ticket for public transport.
Students from non- ELLS universities: 500 EURO for housing and ticket for public transport
Hohenheim students: 30 €

Fees include accommodation,  technical excursions and a welcome and farewell event: After payment of fees registration is binding.

Accommodation costs will be waived for a limited number of participants from non-European ELLS partner universities.

Some ELLS member universities provide scholarships for participants of ELLS summer schools. Please address the ELLS IRO member of your home university

Students are required to cover their own costs for travelling to Hohenheim, food, private and touristic excursions, insurance, visa and personal needs.

Visa:

Participants are responsible for obtaining the correct visa that allows them to study legally in Germany for the duration of the Summer School.

Insurance:

Participants are required to have health insurance that covers illnesses and accidents as well as civil liability insurance valid for Germany.
