The 1st ECSE is held 7 26th July 2008 hosted by the Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague (CULS). One week of home studies is followed by two weeks field excursion in the Czech Republic.
A general background in environmental science including insight in ecology, botany, zoology, soil and water resources and management related to nature conservation is recommended. The course is aimed at students finalizing their BSc or starting up their MSc.
Staff from CULS and other ELLS universities and representatives from administration and enterprises will act as teachers and instructors.
Objectives

- To apply environmental science theories to problems observed in the field
- To get insight into different types of pollution, environmental effects, remediation, environmental policies and local management strategies in different parts of Europe
- To experience the management of natural resources and disaster prevention
- To learn tools for collecting, processing and interpreting biological and environmental data
- To draw on different expertises for problems solving in a group of students of different nationalities and with different backgrounds
- To use intensive e-learning as integrated learning tool for the two weeks preparation to the field course.
Course schedule
ECSE (7,5 ECTS) is in English and includes:
- Pre-course e-learning (approx. 25 hrs) is started with a videoconference 2nd June 2008 for introduction
- One week intensive e-learning study from home university, starting 2nd videoconference 7th July 2008
- Two week field course in the Czech Republic 13 26th July 2008. Venues are Prague, Litvínov and Liberec.

Fees
This is a course supported by Erasmus program of the EU commission. The accommodation and food is paid for and only a registration fee of 50 euro is required.
