Natural Disaster Prevention and Reduction with Emphasis on Floods and Droughts
(21-29 June 2006)
Description
The main purpose of the Workshop is to acquaint its participants with techniques used in the identification of origins of disasters (hazards) and vulnerability of concerned regions, risk assesment and monitoring, data collection, processing, transmission and use, systems of early warning (EW), local, regional and national preparedness, disaster management and role of civil society, education and training. The Workshop will include hands-on exercises and a field trip.

Application and Admission
The course is designed for students and professionals, who desire to enhance their knowledge in management of disasters of hydrometeorological origin
It is open to participants coming from any country of Europe (with preference given to applicants from Central and East European countries), younger than 50 years and possessing basic knowledge in subjects related to environmental management, with special regard to hydrometeorological events (meteorology and hydrology). Minimum requirement is BSc. degree or equivalent level of academic studies. Proficiency in spoken and written English is an essential condition of admission.

Costs
Travel cost to and from Prague
The travel expenses from the participant's home country to Prague and back must be borne by each participant.
Cost of stay in Prague
The stay cost (boarding and lodging) in Prague will be provided by the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague with some support of other organisations.
