ELLS Scientific Student Conference 2011, Wageningen, Oct. 20-21
ELLS Conference October 21/22 2011, Wageningen University
The Annual Euroleague (ELLS) Conference was hosted by Wageningen University on October 21 & 22, 2011.A big part of this year's ELLS Conference was dedicated to the celebration of the network's tenth anniversary.
In spirit of the tenth anniversary of ELLS the theme of this year's conference was:
Life Sciences Universities in 2020

The conference embraced a new initiative this year, a discussion forum for all ELLS members, as well as other interested parties. The topic of the discussion was "Where will ELLS and ELLS member institutions be in 2020" - and was primarily based on the top five priorities of the ELLS Strategy (identified by ELLS Board):
1) Increase number of summer schools
2) Increase number of joint programmes
3) Increase use of e-learning
4) Promotion of ELLS and of ELLS programmes
5) Cooperation at PhD level (primarily development of summer courses)
The discussion was guided around the top five priorities by the help of a collective discussion paper, which was based on contributions from ELSA, the IRO group and the ELLS Secretariat.
Two hours were devoted to the discussion between the discussion panel, ELLS Board and Task Force and the general audience. The discussion panel consisted of ELLS joint programme leaders, or representatives from ELLS joint programmes, and ELSA's Chair. A final report of the discussion forum will be posted here on the website very soon.

ELLS Anniversary
Dinner at Restaurant
Omundo, Hotel de Wereld
Approximately 150 people participated in the conference - and the number only increased at the ELLS anniversary dinner on Friday October 21, where a group of former ELLS members also took part in the festivities. The venue for the dinner was the amazing Restaurant Omundo at Hotel de Wereld in down town Wageningen. During the evening the guests enjoyed live music by the BOKU Brass Band, a Guitar player from Hohenheim and a horn blower ensemble from Prague. Part of the evening was also devoted to the traditional ELLS Award ceremony, where the ELSA students were bestowed this year's ELLS Award for their outstanding work in ELLS.
ELLS Award 2011
