Organic Agriculture

Aims

The Subject Area “Organic Agriculture” profits from the different foci of Organic Agriculture research and education in the participating universities. As Organic Agriculture is based on a holistic approach and each step along the food chain strongly influences the following, a thorough insight in these steps is exceedingly important. Because of these strong interdependencies, a system approach is a characteristic of Organic Agriculture teaching. Nevertheless, such transdisciplinary approaches are not always easy to realise. As Organic Agriculture systems including the post harvest and processing sector as well it is difficult for each partner university to cover every issue in detail on a high scientific level. The Subject Area “Organic Agriculture” aims to contribute to a better understanding of the different organic food chains especially in respect to a growing European market for organic food. Within the first milestone we will define the strengths of the partner universities in detail.
